There are so many places to visit in the world but never enough time to see them all. A lot of people can’t afford to take weeks off at a time to go on vacation, meaning their traveling has been reduced to weekend excursions. The Danish capital might be best enjoyed at a slow pace, but there’s still so much you can do when you’re short on time.
Go on a boat tour
No matter how fast you walk, you probably can’t see the whole of Copenhagen in two days. Thankfully, if you’re willing to compromise a little with your exploration, then you can fit in a fair few sights without having to tire yourself out. We’re, of course, talking about a boat tour. With all those canals going through Copenhagen, seeing the city on the water is an absolute must. You might not be able to look at some of the sights up close, but you’ll get a glimpse of things you may have otherwise missed.
Visit Freetown Christiania
Just like every other city in the world, each corner of Copenhagen isn’t the same. While a lot of the architecture here is similar, there’s one district which switches things up – Freetown Christiania. Here, the Danish style you might be accustomed to is abandoned and replaced with something very fitting of the millennial lifestyle. You’ll find a lot of live music venues and organic markets in this part of the city, offering you plenty to do in Copenhagen whether it’s day or night. The fact that Freetown Christiania stands out from the crowd makes it well worth a visit, even if you only have 48 hours.
See The Little Mermaid
There are many famous statues dotted all around the world, and Copenhagen is home to one of them. At the Langelinie promenade, you’ll find The Little Mermaid sitting on a rock looking out over the water. The bronze statue shows a mermaid turning human and was inspired by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s fictional work. Much like Christ the Redeemer and Manneken Pis, The Little Mermaid is considered a symbol of its city. For that reason alone, the landmark is worth a visit while you’re in the area. Not only will it give you a chance to explore the promenade, but you’ll also get to witness a piece of Danish history.
Explore the National Gallery
Every city has its share of galleries and museums, and each one is worth looking around. Unfortunately, when you’re cut for time, you have to prioritize which places you visit. If you can only afford to go to one, we’d suggest you give the National Gallery your full attention. It’s home to so much history, both from Copenhagen and Denmark in general. It also features a great deal of work by incredible talents like Picasso, so there’s no doubt you’ll be blown away when you explore around here.
There’s no way you’ll be able to see all of Copenhagen when you only have 48 hours to spare. Thankfully, if you visit the important places now, you’ll have something to tide you over until you go on a proper vacation to the city.
