Even the thought of Jamaica is enough to put a smile on your face. It’s home to color, music, and adventure – a beautiful island that has to be seen to be believed. There are so many things to see and do on this tropical island, here are just a few ideas!
Explore the Rastafarian Culture
Visit the Rastafari Indigenous Village just outside of Montego Bay to learn about the Rastafarian culture, from their history and skills to their cuisine and music. Get involved by crafting with the locals, and learning traditional dances. It’ll be a fun way to experience an entirely different way of life.
Visit the Bob Marley Museum
One of the most famous Jamaican musicians of all time Bob Marley’s music encompasses everything about Jamaica, and there is a fantastic museum in his old home in Kingston which is well worth a visit for fans!
Do go chasing waterfalls
There are plenty of stunning waterfalls to find in Jamaica! Choose a local guide to help you find the best ones (and how to enjoy them safely!), and spend some time bathing in the lagoons, or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, set up a rope swing! Dunn’s River Falls and YS Waterfalls are both popular choices.
Enjoy a catamaran snorkeling tour
Usually, on the front of the holiday brochure for Caribbean trips, catamaran tours are a must-do activity when you’re in the Caribbean Islands! Enjoy time on the boat, relaxing, listening to music, and eating snacks while you head to your snorkeling destination. Then, follow your guide into the calm water to spot fish and explore sea caves, before heading back onto the boat for some cocktails.
Go on the Black River Safari
Did you know that crocodiles were once endangered and are now a protected species? You can get up close and (terrifyingly!) personal with the Black Rover crocs on the South Coast during a 90-minute safari tour. A really amazing experience!
Take a cooking class
Jamaican food is incredible, and one thing you will want to take home from your trip is the ability to recreate it at home! Sign up for a class, and learn to make a typical Jamaican dish, such as Jerk Chicken. It’s a fun and interactive way to immerse yourself in the culture.
Of course, this requires some planning (and willing parties!), but Jamaica is an amazing wedding venue. Whether you are doing a big destination wedding or eloping, the Seven Mile Beach in Negril is a wedding destination that dreams are made of!
Watch a sunset
Nothing says ‘paradise’ quite like relaxing on a hammock on the beach, a drink in hand, watching the sun go down. If there’s one thing everyone has to do in Jamaica, whether you’re a beach bum, a thrill seeker or a culture chaser, is to enjoy a Caribbean sunset!
This is only a tiny taste of what there is to do in Jamaica! It’s certainly one for the travel bucket list!
