While a Scandinavian trip isn’t one of the cheapest you can take, it is one of the most beautiful, according to the millions of people who visit there every year. However, if you’re taking the time out to go visit one, why not visit them all? Traveling between them, you will have the opportunity to see much of the breathtaking landscapes that surround the towns and cities. So, where should you start?
Start in Copenhagen, Denmark
Since you’ll be starting in the capital, there’s going to be a whole lot to see, and you don’t want to miss you. Be sure to see the famous Tivoli gardens that have been opened since 1843 and features some awesome rides, restaurants, and beautiful gardens. It also has one of the oldest roller coasters in the world. Walk along Strøget shopping street and experience the city’s feel, taking in the people and the buildings. After you’ve done all that, where better to end your experience than at Nyhavn waterfront, where you can enjoy looking out onto the docks or have a bite to eat at an open-air restaurant.
Many recommend to explore this great city yourself, and not to buy into any bus tours, the experience is not as intimate or exciting. If you want to experience the city in a nutshell, then you can pick up an official visitors map that will highlight the perfect tourist route.
Take it up a notch in Oslo
There’s so much to see here from Vikings to life-size sculptures. If you have a taste for history then head over to the Viking Museum on the transport ferry, it’ll be worth the trip. If you’re not only into history, but you love a bit of art and culture, then Oslo is also home to the many sculptures created by the famous Gustav Vigeland. You will then be able to get a grasp on the city and visit all the main buildings from the City Hall to the Palace. Not to mention the beautiful scenery that surrounds the place, you’ll be captivated as soon as your there.
Bergen to Alesund
You’ll be making your way to your third and final destination, but there are a few things you will not want to miss along the way. From Oslo, if you travel to Bergen, then you will have the opportunity to take their incredible cable car ride all the way up to the famous Mount Fløyen. Here you will be able to marvel at the views of the city from above. It’s recommended to take the longer bus or coach trips at this point, and traveling from Bergen to Alesund is a great opportunity. If you want, you can take a ten-hour bus trip where you will get to travel through some of the most incredible scenes you will ever get the chance to see.
Making it to Stockholm
It depends what you’re looking for in this trip to what you will want to prioritize, however, if you’re there to enjoy the natural world then don’t miss out on visiting Geirangerfjord, it’s been hailed as one of the most breathtaking scenes with incredible views. If you’ve decided you want to head to Stockholm, make sure you visit the Vasa Museum where they hold a 17th Century ship. Enjoy a boat ride to the Palace, or simply stroll down the gorgeous cobbled streets.
