Traveling around the world is one of the most exciting things anyone can do. The trouble with going to some ‘must see’ spots is that when you get there, you can’t help but feel, well, underwhelmed. These spots in the United States will not make you feel that way, they are totally worth a visit.
The Grand Canyon
Sure it might just look like a giant hole in the earth, and that is what it is, but you have to see it to believe it. The scale of the national park is astounding and looking over the edge of the canyon is awe-inspiring. Travel tip: if you want to have an amazing experience at the canyon, head there just before sunset and load up the car with a takeout pizza. You won’t regret it!
New York City
Yeah it’s cliched, but New York really is the city the never sleeps. You can do just about anything here that you want to. There is a reason why it’s one of the busiest cities in the world, there is so much great stuff there. You can find the latest bands, as much art as your eyes can take, plenty of places to party, and a nice quiet spot in Central Park to relax in. There are a bunch of landmarks to visit too, but if you don’t want to spend your time standing in line make sure you get there early. Once you’ve seen the sights, you can immerse yourself in the city.
If you want to party on your vacation, then you need to get yourself to New Orleans. It’s pretty much the party capital of the world, especially during Mardi Gras. There are tons of streets to get lost in, lots of drinking holes, and the best jazz bars on the planet. Why not take a boat ride down the Mississippi and put yourself in your own Adventures of Tom Sawyer experience.
You’ll find plenty to eat in New Orleans, make sure you tuck into some gumbo and jambalaya to taste the real flavor of Louisiana. If you like all things spooky, you can take a voodoo tour of the city and learn about the history of the age-old practice.
In Waikiki, Hawaii, you get exactly what you would expect. Idyllic beaches and one of the most laid back atmospheres found anywhere in the world. You can rent a surfboard and try to master the waves of the Pacific Ocean that come crashing to the shore. It’s not all about sun, sand, and surfing though. There are plenty of places to go shopping, lots of food options, and it’s an ideal place for couples, families, or solo travelers.
If you’re looking for a real American experience, then you should definitely check these places out. They all offer something a little different, but you definitely won’t get bored in a hurry. Unlike many tourist destinations, there will be no disappointments there, and they are totally worth traveling to.
