Have you ever seen a dark square or rectangle at the end of your toothpaste tube, and wondered what that was all about? There used to be a common misconception that these were color codes to indicate whether a toothpaste was synthetic or all-natural.
But these are actually markers that are detected by the assembly-line machines. They tell the machine where to cut and fold the tube, so that each and every tube of toothpaste is the same size.
