Considering it’s not the most attractive color, why is brown such a popular choice for these bottles? There’s a very good reason for this, and it has nothing to do with aesthetics.
Brown glass, especially of the darker variety, keeps out the UV rays that can alter the color and taste of the beer. However, there was a shortage of brown glass during World War II, so manufacturers started using green glass, which proved to be just as effective.
