It’s tough to find the right way to be proud of your own work without seeming braggadocious. You don’t need to be too humble, but it can get pretty tiring hearing someone go on and on about how great they are. Perhaps Heinrich Hertz was a bit worried about this when discussing his discovery of radio waves.
He downplayed his achievements quite a bit! Or maybe he just really couldn’t envision a future where radio was used frequently. Either way, his statement proved to be very… very wrong. Radio waves are insanely useful in almost all fields and industries.
