Lilo and Stich is one of our favorite Disney movies, not only because it is hilarious, original, bittersweet, and so very human, but because it is visually mesmerizing. Turns out, there’s an explanation for that.
This was the first Disney movie since 1941’s Dumbo to use watercolor-painted backgrounds. It took some time for the studios background painters to get used to this technique, which hadn’t been used in decades, and they actually got tips from an artist who had painted backgrounds for Snow White!
