In the original Toy Story, when we first saw the inside of toy-torturer Sid’s house, we had a feeling of deja vu, but we weren’t sure why. Then, the internet came to the rescue – it’s because of the carpet.
That’s the same pattern as the carpet from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining! Who could forget the iconic image of Danny cycling through the halls of the Overlook Hotel? The reference is so fitting, because for Woody and Buzz, being inside Sid’s house was like being in a horror movie.
