There’s no doubt that Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker in the 1989 version of Batman is one of the most iconic performances of all time. Nicholson improvised the Joker’s favorite line, asking Bruce if he’s ever danced with the devil.
The line can be interpreted in different ways – he might be asking if he’s ever experienced pain and grief such as he, or if he’s ever considered taking a walk on the dark side. Either way, it must be brilliant if fans are still debating the meaning of it.
