As bloody and foul-mouthed as Logan – the movie, not the character – was, it also tied up Wolverine’s seven-movie-long saga beautifully and poignantly. Before that heartbreaking ending, though, we got a scene with Wolverine and Professor X sitting down for dinner with a family. When one of the kids talks about dropping out of school, Logan mention Xavier once having run one.
This led to a completely improvised eight-minute conversation in which Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart laid out the twisted history of their characters. Infuriatingly, only a single line of that made it into the final cut.
